Lahore Qalandars bagged their third straight victory of the 2020 Pakistan Super League on Tuesday, defeating Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
The Qalandars, who have been chasing a 188-run goal set by Zalmi, completed at 189-5 with only one ball remaining — a visible that made for a nail-biting end.
Player of the match Fakhar Zaman remained their prime scorer, hitting sixty-three runs from 46 balls whereas Chris Lynn contributed fifty-nine from thirty-two.
Qalandars required eight runs from the ultimate over and David Wiese and Samit didn’t disappoint, with Wiese seeing his staff house in fashion with a six off the second-last ball of the innings.
Earlier, after being despatched in to bat, Zalmi completed with a rating of 187-7 after dropping early wickets. They have been 35-Three after 5 overs.
Zalmi misplaced their first participant on the second ball of the match when Tom Banton was caught by Mohammad Hafeez off Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Samit Patel then dismissed Liam Livingstone within the second over whereas Kamran Akmal was caught by Haris Rauf off Patel within the fourth over after scoring 12 from eight.
Shoaib Malik (62 from 43) and Haider Ali (69 from 43) then stabilized the staff’s ship till the previous was caught off David Wiese within the 16th over. Ali was dismissed by Dilbar Hussain 2 overs later.
The Qalandars earlier gained the toss and determined to discipline first towards Zalmi in what was the 24th match of PSL’s fifth version and the second between Qalandars and Zalmi.
With 9 factors, having performed 9 matches, gained 4, misplaced 4 and being awarded a degree after their fixture towards Islamabad United was deserted on account of rain, the second-placed Peshawar aspect wants just one extra win to develop into the second staff to qualify for the play-offs after Multan Sultans.
